What do we know about security upgrades in the new AirPort Extreme and how it compares to the previous generation?

Firewall? SPI?

It's hard to find any data on this.

but have they improved security since the previous generation?

but have they improved security since the previous generation?

Apple's description of security features is kind of generalized so hard to tell. On the previous model Extreme the statement reads:
AirPort Extreme includes a built-in firewall that creates a barrier between your network and the Internet, protecting your data from malicious Internet attacks. When you set up the base station, the firewall is automatically turned on to keep the bad guys out. For computers with a cable or DSL modem, using AirPort is actually safer than being directly connected to the modem.

On the new one:
AirPort Extreme includes a built-in firewall that creates a barrier between your network and the Internet, protecting your data from malicious attacks. When you set up AirPort Extreme, the firewall is automatically turned on, so you don’t have to do a thing. Except enjoy the web with peace of mind.

If there's a difference, Apple's chosen not to highlight it.

Pretty sure the security has stayed the same. Have not noticed and new features in the Airport utility.
