First timer here. I only ever used Windows but have iPhone and iPads. Looking at this Mac on Amazon. It's refurbed. I have $500 free Amazon money to spend and need a computer for when I travel. Just skype, movie streaming and internet surfing. Maybe some light video editing. What say you? Good deal or find something else? I'd have them upgrade ram to 8gb and I really want to get into macs.

Apple 13 Inch MacBook Pro / MD101LL/A / 2.5GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Intel HD 4000 Graphics

Why not an iPad? If all your doing is watching movies and browsing the internet then you don't need a bulky computer. Depends on what you mean when you say 'light video editing' too.

Either way anything from the last 8 years would easily handle your needs.

I really need an actual computer. iPad just has its limitations and I thought this would be a good way to get into the Mac world. I just don't know enough about macs to know if spending $430 on a 2013 is better than just buying a new Dell for the same price.

That machine should suit everyday needs. Video editing will be slow, but everything else will be fine. Does it say if the battery has been replaced? It's an older model, so I'd imagine the original battery would be pretty tired. You can always replace it yourself, but it's a multi-step process involving tools.
