2013 MacBook Air - Laggy when driving monitor?

I really like my 2013 MacBook Air, but I have noticed that when I have it at my desk, lid closed, and connected to my monitor, browsing and scrolling in any app are a bit more laggy compared to just using the MacBook Air elsewhere. I did not notice this with my 2012 MBA. Anyone else experience this as well? Thanks.

I'm not experiencing any lag on my external monitor with my 2013 MBA. Although I was using both monitors (not in clamshell mode), that shouldn't make a difference in this case.
