Hi all,

Looking for some advice on an issue I'm having with my mid-2013 Macbook Pro.

About a month ago it started going really slow and freezing regularly. I tried all the usual re-sets and nothing worked. Then I went to power up one day and it wouldn't move past the loading screen. I re-booted in recovery and ran a diagnostic on the disk but nothing showed up, so I erased the hard drive and re-installed the OS. This fixed the problem for about a week, then the same thing happened again. I'm on my 4th re-install of the OS in the last month, and now it's happening again. I ran a diagnostic on the hardware but again nothing showed up.

Does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be?

Thank you!

I have checked it, it failed to verify a few times. If that's the issue, would replacing it solve the problem?

How much FREE SPACE is left on the hard drive?
If it gets full or "close to full", the OS may bog down or perhaps won't boot at all.

It's actually a mid-2012 model, which has the same hard drive as my old mid-2009 one. Swapped the old hard drive into the new one and instantly fixed it! I had backed up last week before the re-install so it's all good. Thanks for your help :D

Had the same problem with my 15” machine a few years ago - ended up being the SSD controller. At the time I was covered under a Repeat Repair warranty due to a recent battery replacement, and they ended up replacing the entire machine with a then-current equivalent (my 2018 machine).

Is your battery in need of replacement? You could have them replace the battery & cover the SSD replacement that way…
