I've got a 2013 Macbook pro 2.3 i7, 16 GB, 500 GB HD, NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M

A few months ago the computer started freezing, trackpad and keyboard become unresponsive, the fans shoot up to max speed for about 10 seconds then the computer shuts down. This happens every time I use the computer.

If I boot into safe mode the computer works fine. You know aside from being able to use all my fonts, play video, audio, etc. so this is definitely not a perminent solution.

The other kicker... if I plug the computer into my OWC Thunderbolt 2 hub (https://www.owcdigital.com/products/thunderbolt-2-dock) I can use the computer normally (not in safe boot). In that hub I have an HDMI cable going out to a LG TV in case I want to use a dual monitor for something, and a USB cable going into a vinyl plotter.

Something is overriding the standard computer configuration when plugged into that hub that lets the computer work normally.

When this first happened I was on 10.12 but upgraded to 10.13 to see if that would help but it didn't.

I've cleaned out the computer to see if there was any debris in the case. It was very dirty but that didn't help anything.

I've done Apple Hardware test and those come back clean.

DiskWarrior comes back clean.

I forgot which one I used but I did a memory test and it came back fine.

I've reset PRAM

I've reset the SMC

The only thing I haven't done is a complete wipe of the computer. Any ideas? I wanted a new mac but I'm not happy with the problems these new 6 cores are having. If it weren't for this problem I could probably hold onto this one for another year or two.
