2013 MBA 10.8.5 Video with Non-Apple Applications

Hey - anybody else running in to this issue?

Basically the 10.8.5 update has rendered the video camera inaccessible on my Macbook Air. There's a few workarounds, but Apple's response is essentially, "talk to your vendor." http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4552

I searched the forum and couldn't find any other posts on this yet, but if this is a dupe, please feel free to subsume it into a different thread.
