2013 MBA & ACD Issue

i just sold a friend my 24" ACD, which worked seemlessly for years with my 2008 MBP. He's telling me that his 2013 MBA's fans are running like crazy all the time with the monitor in use. Anyone else have this issue with this combo? It doesn't make any sense to me, and he doesn't know anything about computers. I'll try to troubleshoot it at some point, but if this has happened to others and gotten resolved, I'd appreciate knowing how it got resolved.
