I currently have a 2014 Air with 8GB ram and a 256GB SSD. I want to upgrade to get the retina screen, as switching back and forth between my iPad Pro (10.5) and the MacBook is not doing favors on my eyes.
I’m doing an online grad program that doesn’t play nicely with iOS when it comes to posting online, taking quizzes, and writing papers with citations, so I do need a MacOS device. I also do some podcasting through GarageBand, some photoshop, illustrator, and video editing (though all minor stuff). The 2014 is definitely showing its age when I try to log on or do simple things in Adobe or GarageBand.
I can get the 2018 Air with 256GB SSD and 16GB of Ram for $1500 when buying it through my work. Is it worth it to go with the air? I don’t know that I have the money (or need the power) to step up to a TB Pro and I don’t want a nTB Pro after seeing all the keyboard issues. Touch ID sounds like it would be great to have since I use 1Password a lot.
