Bought a 2014 iMac running 10.9.5. I accidentally deleted documents from the sidebar in the finder. How to I get it back?

Locate the file using the search function in the upper right hand corner of the Finder window.

Once located, simply drag the file (or folder) back onto the sidebar.

Edit: Misunderstood, thought you had specific documents in the sidebar (weird but I've sen it).

Choose the Go menu from the Finder, select 'Home', then drag the Documents icon to the sidebar and place it underneath 'Applications'.
