Up here in Canada Apple is charging about $250 to replace the battery on our MBP. To me this still sounds crazy, and the task isn't something I'd do on my own.

Anybody in the Toronto Area on this forum who can suggest elsewhere to go? What should we be paying?

It's actually easy to replace the battery yourself.

A battery from Amazon.CA is about $90 for a 13" so a repair shop will probably charge $120 to $140. With a 15", I'd estimate around $150 to $170 from a repair shop.

thanks I will look into a repair shop, I honestly don't trust myself to not screw up. I think the battery has glue around it or something?

Yes, the battery is glued in place. I didn't like the idea of heating the case, apply liquid adhesive remover, and using a putty knife to remove the battery; therefore, I used a piece of nylon string wrapped around a wooden popsicle stick on each end and used a sawing motion to cut through the adhesive. Once the battery was removed, it was easy to gently remove any remaining adhesive.

When Apple replaces the battery, the top case and keyboard are also replaced which explains the high cost of using Apple for the replacement.
