Hi all,

I have a 2015 13" retina MacBook Pro with a 256GB Apple SSD that works fine. I bought a 512GB on eBay that is not recognized by macOS either in Disk Utility, nor is it recognized as a destination for a Monterey installation. It's simply not there. I've even tried the diskutil list terminal command, and no internal disk is recognized. As a last ditch effort, I created a bootable Monterey installation USB, but it also wouldn't show any disk recognized as an installation destination. I swapped back in the original 256GB drive and it was immediately recognized. I basically did all the helpful steps listed here.

From my (long gone) days of owning a trashcan Mac Pro, I recall differences between the SSUAX and SSUBX models. My original SSD is SSUAX, and the eBay listing also showed SSUAX in the photo. But SSUBX is what arrived. Could this be the issue?

Well shoot. I saw a old comment on another forum that indicated that SSUBX is PCIe 3.0 x4, whereas the 13" 2015 MacBook Pro is only PCIe 2.0 x2.

I guess I'm SOL, outside of returning it?
