I’m looking for a new MacBook Pro and just can’t use the new keyboards as of now. I had a 2017 for a bit that i returned and I’ve tried the 2018 models in the store and I’m just not a fan although I think the 2018 is going in the right direction. Anyway i have a friend of mine who has an immaculate 2015 2.8GHZ 1TB 15” MacBook Pro. Is has 100 battery cycles on it and I’ve inspected it and it’s in immaculate condition. It comes with its original box as well. He’s asking $1500. Do you guys think that’s a good buy?

I wouldn't personally - it is a great machine but $1500 is still not a small amount of change. I like things to perform for the long term and this laptop being 3 years old, it's already aged a bit.

Now, many will find it still has a lot of power and their usage means that it will probably still last another 3-5 years for them. What I will say to them is, you probably never needed a MacBook Pro in the first place. There are newer and cheaper alternatives on the market that you can take up instead of getting the latest MacBook Pro's (wait for the upcoming Macbook/Mabook Air(?) due to come in a month or two).

Thanks for the reply. Only problem with new models coming out is that they will probably have a butterfly keyboard, and that’s a no go for me.

Like you I prefer the old style keyboard, but I don't know if buying a laptop 3 years old is a good solution to the problem. I would either get used to it or just buy something completely different.

I'd get it unless you need graphics power, in which case the 2018 models are the way to go (not that they great graphics, but they are significantly better than the 2015).

$1500 for a 2.8/1 TB seems reasonable.

That is EXTREMELY overpriced. For that much money you can buy an almost fully speced Surface Book 2, which I think will be a great buy for you: it has one of the best laptop keyboards ever that, MagSafe from Microsoft, extreme battery life (12-14 hours of average usage no problem), no gimmicky touch bars, an SD card slot, a 30 day return policy, touchscreen and removable top part that turns into a tablet, and one of my favourite screens. Basically, that's what the current gen MacBook should have been if Apple didn't have so much courage :D I suggest you check it out, it's really something.

Maybe wait till the new Air is released this year (rumoured). I am hoping against hope that model does not have the butterfly keyboard (fool's errand I know).

Otherwise I think you better get used to the butterfly keyboard or buy something else as quite a few people have suggested

Nah. The base model 15" is $1999, and that's with the bare minimum. Plus, windows... I actually do like the machine as I've played with them in the Microsoft store, but I could never drop that much money on an OS I can't stand using.

Yeah. I'd be shocked if the new model didn't have the butterfly keyboard.

Looking at eBay and Swappa, the 1,500 seems about right. It may be a touch on the high side, but if it is indeed in mint condition, then its a decent price.

If you are ready to spend $1,500, spend a little more and get an Apple-refurbished 2015 MacBook Pro 15" from the Apple online store.

That way, you get a "next-to-new" example that also comes with a 1-year warranty, which you can extend to 3 years with AppleCare (if you wish).

My opinion only, and others will disagree (some vehemently), but I cannot recommend any MacBook 2016 or later.

The 2015 still gets my recommendation as the better MacBook.
A keyboard you can type on, that won't break on you.
Ports you can actually plug things into without dongles or adapters.

I think the 2015 MacBook Pro is a fine machine, but I wouldn’t buy one from a friend. What happens if it breaks? Is your friend still going to be your friend? Definitely get a 2015 MBP if the price is right, but get it from some other source. Good advice to remember: never buy, rent, borrow, loan, etc. etc. etc. anything from a friend or family; it will always come back to bite you in the a$$.

Then what exactly is your question? :D

As the facts are standing:
- you don't want to use windows
- there is almost 0 chance Apple will go back to the old keyboard (especially on the Air since it has the old keyboard now and will be updated)

So there is no choice but to buy the old MBP from your friend this case. It's not a good buy, but it's the only buy that will make sense given all this.

BB has these on sale new for $1699.

Thank you for all of the replies. I was actually kind of surprised by all of the misinformation on here regarding the price. A $1500 asking price for a mint condition 2015 MacBook Pro with over a year of warranty and top of the line for that year is cheaper than anything anywhere I've been able to find.

Nonetheless, I pulled the trigger on it as he let it go for $1450 which I thought was more than reasonable. Again I appreciate the replies.
