2015 Macbook Pro - trackpad has gone haywire

Hey Everyone,

Have a weird issue that I couldn't find anyone else with on here. I have a 2015 Macbook Pro running OS X with intel chip.

Out of the blue, the trackpad sensitivity went to full max, gestures reversed, and clicking stopped working. I could reduce the sensitivity to minimum (which is still quite high compared to before), but moving is totally reverse (i.e., when I move my finger to the left, the pointer moves right, moving my finger down, the pointer goes up, etc.), also clicking still not working.

I followed typical things like rebooting, resetting the "ram", checking for updates. Nothing helped. I finally decided to wipe the HD clean and make clean install. For the 1st half of the install, the trackpad starting functioning "normal", but after one of the reboots during the install it reverted back to it's wacky behaviour. So I'm thinking it's software not hardware as it worked normal during part of the install.

I'm at a loss....any suggestions? If it's "try a different OS", I would appreciate a pointer of how to do that.

Any chance the battery is swollen? It could put pressure on the trackpad causing problems.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I took the back cover off and the battery looks in good condition. There doesn't seem to be any bloating, unless it bloats in only one direction and I would have to remove the battery to actually see it.

Do you think a newer OS version might solve it?
