I have been thinking about picking up a 2017 maxed out 13 inch. However the more I look at the 2017 15 inch it seems as if apple made that one ALOT more portable if this is the case I may just go with the 15 inch. Has anyone had experience with both of these? (the 2015 & 2017 15 inch) My needs would be met with the specced out 13 inch HOWEVER I do like the screen real estate and would go that route if the portability has improved drastically. (i own a 2015 15 ATM) thanks!

If you own a 2015 15", then you have an idea how portable a 15" machine is. The new ones are I believe 1/2 a lb lighter, and a littler thinner. since the thickness was driven by the different port sizes on the 2015 model. The 13" is an amazing machine given its size. It is smaller and I think lighter than the 13" MacBook Air, There is not much difference in price between a spec'ed out 13" MBP and the 15" model (obviously not the most spec'ed out 15"). Is it your only computer? and if so do you need (or want and will regret not getting) the bigger screen? If so get the 15". But if you want portable the 13" is your best choice.

Thank you, I ask because I have really been leaning towards getting the 13 maxed for the portability and wondered if the 2017 15 was a night and day difference in portability over the 2015. (I have a 2015 15 now and would leave it at the house and take the newer one with me).

I had a 2012 15", and just got a maxed out 13" myself (It it my only computer, so I am still deciding if I can live on the smaller screen) I have been bringing the 15" back and forth to work in my back pack for 5 years and wanted to try the 13" just because it is more portable, all maxed out it is an upgrade to my current 15" and I personally think the track pad on the new 15" are just too big, I know they have good palm rejection, but I can't type on one in the store with out being on the track pad the entire time with my palms and get a lot of false taps. the 13" trackpad I think is big, but totally usable and will be easy to adjust to. But talk about portability, there is nothing more night and day then going from the old style 15" to a new 13".

For me the test is: can I comfortable use the thing on an airplane seat. My 2014 15" - no I cannot use if comfortably. I can use it, but definitely uncomfortable. Even though the 2017 is a bit smaller, I still don't think I could use it on an airplane seat with ease. 13" is grand. But if it were me I would wait a few more months and see if these fabled quad core 13"'s materalise
