Has anyone tried this? I just ordered the LG 5K display and I'm hopping to use my pre existing 1440p monitor as a second display.

Should be fine. I'm sure there was a thread around here somewhere with someone using a 5k and a 4k ultrafine together on the 13" 2016 MBP.

Wasn't that with a 15"?

This shouldn't be possible. The integrated graphics supports three displays, and the 5K counts as two as it is composed of two 4K-ish images. The internal display then makes it three.

I thought that poster was mistaken. I thought it reported 5K + 4K, but in reality it was downscaling the 5K.

I can't be sure of that though.

Perhaps but I was pretty sure it was a 13" or it wouldn't have been noteworthy as the 15" can drive 2 5K displays just fine.

That sounds quite likely as like brookzy says, it shouldn't be able to do that unless apples claims were more from an experience point of view than a possibility perspective.

I have both the 4k and 5k and can confirm that they both work, however the 5k will not display in its native resolution.
