2016 Macbook battery is not charging; says "power adapter" as source

Hey guys, Im hoping for a little help here-- I'm on a 2016 MacBook m7, and i believe as of yesterday, im unsure if I maybe I had an update but when I plug my MacBook in to the power adapter it doesn't charge, the battery icon has the lighting bolt on it, whether its plugged in or not and it says "not charging" and "power source: power adapter"

I looked for some energy saving features to turn off under the battery system preferences but I cannot find anything. Does anybody know why this is happening? thank you so much.

Update: restarting the SMC might have fixed. Stand by.

Does anybody know what causes this? Is it MacBook about to die?

Check to see if current actually is charging the battery using the free Mac app coconutBattery. What you're experiencing isn't normal
