Not aware of anyone else posting about this. To confirm, yes, you can use Target Display Mode on older Thunderbolt iMacs with the new 2016 MacBook Pro. I'm using Apple's Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter.

Here's my 15" MBP hooked up to a 2011 21.5 iMac, which even today makes for a gorgeous external display for any Mac. (The iMac stand is hidden under the shelf.)

nice findings Konnyaku !!

I was wondering if this works the other way around.
using the macbook as the second target display.

let say use older macbook pro + new one side by side.
