I'm having a problem with my 2016 MacBook Pro 15" with the 460 GPU.
I use the following cable to connect my Asus ROG PG278Q 1440p 144hz monitor:

Problem is, I can use 120 hertz, but when I select 144hz both my mac screen and monitor become solid gray. The touch bar still shows icons but starts operating at 10-20 SPF (seconds per frame). When I unplug the cable, the issues persist, and I need to restart and boot up without the cable to use the computer. To change the refresh rate back to a "safe value I need to boot into safe mode, install TeamViewer, plug the USB-C to DP cable in and use my phone to navigate, as the screens still turned gray even though it didn't get choppy.
In Windows, the 144hz option doesn't even show. Also, note that 120hz works perfectly fine. I tried using ScreenResX with no luck. The cable is rated at 4k at 60fps which means it's DisplayPort 1.2 and that's what the monitor has too.
Should I return the cable? Or does anyone know a hotfix? I have searched the web and haven't found any solutions.
