I purchased my 2016 15-inch MacBook Pro brand new from the Apple Store in 2017. One day, I noticed that when I played music, it sounded scratchy through the speaker on the right side of the laptop. It was almost as if the speaker had blown. Regardless, the speaker had an issue and I assumed that it was because I played music too loud (which I never have done) or something random like that.

My MacBook Pro suffered from the battery swelling issue, so Apple replaced the battery which included the keyboard and speakers about three months ago. The new speakers had no issue whatsoever. As I was working on my other laptop, I heard a quick, loud, popping sound come from my personal MacBook Pro. I went over to it and tried playing a song and sure enough -- SAME EXACT ISSUE WITH THE RIGHT SPEAKER.

Now the audio is scratchy and sounds awful. Definitely something wrong with the speaker. I am not sure what to even think right now. I had no apps or browsers running on the Mac at that time. It just randomly happened. Very frustrating.

Hey man, sorry to hear that you are experiencing this problem. I'm dealing with it myself.
I have the 2017 15" MacBook Pro and since 2018 the right-side speaker has blown three times. Each time it has been replaced at the Apple Store for free, but a couple of months later I hear the loud pop and the resulting scratchy sound..

I've tried getting Apple to replace it (since three repairs obviously didn't help), but they refused. Im currently running a case against Apple in the danish consumer court, asking for a refund or similar. Hope you'll find a good solution, although I haven't been able to.
