I had some extra time on a business trip and played around with my settings to see how it would affect battery consumption. My specs are 2.9GHz/460/16GB/1TB.
Measuring with coconutBattery (cB) before making any changes my "Discharging with" figure with no other apps open (just desktop and cB) was ~12 watts. After a couple of changes I am happy to report I am running around 5 watts idle. By idle I mean just looking at the desktop, no apps open.
All I did was disable auto brightness adjust for keyboard and display, and used Lingon X to disable all the 3rd party nonsense that was being started up with macOS (3rd party auto updaters and helpers). Note that for the testing I have my keyboard and display backlight at their lowest settings where both are still "on".
