I just came back from holiday and my 2016 MBP TB has a flat battery (annoying as I left it switched off and fully charged, but that's another issue.) When I charged and switched it on, the clock and date were showing midnight on 1st January 1970, like when a PRAM battery died on older Macs. As soon as I connected to the internet the date returned, but I'm surprised the MBP has no way of knowing the correct time itself. Is this normal? I assume from the size of these things there is no PRAM battery, so how does it store the time?
