Hello All,
I'm new to the thread so sorry if this problem is an old one.
Last week one of the MBPs at work simply turned off while my co-worker was using it. He tried rebooting and after a couple minutes it turned back on and he continued working. Then boom, it turns off again. This cycle repeated a couple times until it stopped booting entirely. I popped the bottom cover off and I saw the batteries were extremely bloated, to the point where it lifted the cover a good 1/8th inch once I loosened the screws. I ordered replacements and installed them.
After the installation I boot it up and it seemed good as new. My co-worker starts using it again for about an hour and it starts going through the same cycle as the last time. It's been rebooted twice now and I was able to look at the System Info before it turned off. For the battery it shows the amperage at -1754 and states that the battery is not charging, but the MBP is plugged in and displays the little charging icon.
Is it possible that something is shorting out the battery? I'm not very experienced with the inner workings of Macs so any advice is appreciated.
