Hi,

So my 2016 13" nTB Pro developed a few problems lately. First the webcam stopped working, then flexgate kicked in, and then it was the turn of the keyboard.

Discovered the display and keyboard replacement programs that Apple offer for free until 4 years after retail (I have a few months left) so I decided to get this done.

Didn't realise they change the entire screen assembly to fix the cable causing the flexgate issue. Also was pleasantly surprised to find out the keyboard replacement means a whole new top case which includes new batteries!

Anyway, while it's being fixed I was wondering will Apple replace my screen with a 2016 screen that may fail again, or do they use a newer screen from a more recent model with a longer display cable? Similar question for the keyboard.

Also, when I get it back, how can I check the year of the new screen? I know for the battery I can use coconutbattery.

Thanks.

Hi, i had the exact same experience as you did with my 2016 13" TB : first the webcam, then the flexgate, now my screen and keyboard do not auto adjust which is very annoying. The genius said the webcam failing didn't have anything to do with flexgate though.

I'm bringing it in tomorrow to replace the screen (provided they don't find water damage, so i'm nervous they'll find an excuse not to repair). I had my keyboard / bottom replaced a couple of years ago due to faulty trackpad that didn't click anymore.

So for your case they'll change screen and keyboard (basically the whole computer)? I think for the screen you can check in the hardware the reference to see if it's the same 2016 or new one.

Hopefully they won't notice the water damage, when they took my laptop they only checked it superficially. Are there water damage indicators in these Pros? How evident is the water damage?

Yeah it's great, they're changing the screen assembly and the top case.

Where can I check for the reference number for the screen? System info?
