Purchased from Best Buy back in June 2017 as Geek Squad Certified Open Box. After a few months of use some of my keys will go unresponsive. Lately its been the "N" key. I have to push HARD and sometimes several times for it to type N. After speaking to Apple Care, they said they would need to check it out, possibly send it out. Now I use my MBP heavily for work and I don't have the luxury, money or use of a temporary option while its away so I have to really decide and plan on when to take it to Apple.

My question is, has anybody experienced this flaw? If so, what was the action taken from Apple's part? How long was the repair? Was it covered under the warranty?

Also, I stupidly didn't purchase Apple Care so, would I still be able to before or after the repair?

Opinions, suggestions, answers would be GREATLY appreciated.

A cursory search will show scores, if not hundreds, of similar threads.

Commin problem; topcase replacement may/may not correct it.

I had the same issue with my 2016 MacBook Pro. Cleaning the key yourself is not recommended. I tried to be careful but still broke the clips on the key.

They blew dust under the key. They tested it and it was still broken so sent it out. It took four days, Apple counts a year from first purchase — you can check when the first user signed into their account — google Apple coverage to get the site and type in serial number. Within that first year you can buy Apple care plus.
