I recently bought a 2nd. hand 64gb SE. IOS 14.4

Bought a case for it.

Compass stopped working = the pointer stayed immobile on North.

Scoured the internet but found no working solutions but was surprised at how many people there were
with the same ' Compass locked / not working problem

At last I removed it from the CASE I had bought for it on amazon.or.jp ( I live in Japan ).

I gingerly removed the soft plastic inner phone holder which exposed TWO thin but STRONG
magnets which are aligned behind the SE top ( 1 cm space ) to bottom. used to hold the case closed.

I removed the two magnets, shut down the SE iPhone - restarted . . .

Volia ! Compass works again now.

I will contrive another, simple method to keep the case closed . .
it's a well made, quite attractive and cheap case.

Hope this helps anyone with the same ' Compass locked / not working problem '

😇

Good to know. Unfortunately, a lot of cases don't follow Apple's Accessory Design Guidelines.
