Hi all,

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro that I purchased a couple of months ago. The battery's cycle count reads 55 cycles at the moment.

Looking forward, I was wondering whether Apple would replace my battery if the cycle count were to reach ~1000 and the battery's ability to hold charge were to decrease noticeably, in warranty? For example, if in July 2018 I find that the battery doesn't hold charge as well as it did when new, will Apple replace this for me within warranty, without charging me? Or will Apple claim that this is wear and tear and charge me for it?

Similarly, if I were to buy AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro 13" at £229, would they replace my Mac's battery for me at no charge to me? A quick search of Apple's website resulted in me finding this in the terms and conditions:

"Service coverage is available only for Mac and its original included accessories for protection against (i) defects in materials or workmanship and (ii) batteries that retain less than 80% of their original capacity."

How would Apple's technicians determine whether the battery holds less than 80% of it's original capacity?

Also, for my reference, what is the price of a battery replacement for a 2017 MacBook Pro 13" at an Apple Store? (In British Pounds Sterling, if possible)

Thank you!

Yes that’s all correct so if the fully charged capacity is less than 80% of the original capacity (as stated in the specs rather than the actual capacity which is often somewhat higher) within AppleCare period of 3 years they will replace it for free. Outside that time limit then they will charge you. They also replace the top case and keyboard at the same time if i’m Not mistaken, battery service for the 2017 is currently £199.
