Does anyone here happen to use SolidWorks with the above laptop, either with Bootcamp or Parallels? I would like to get a general idea of performance.

I'm currently looking to consolidate from my 2012 15" rMBP and iPad, to a 2017 13" MBP. I realise I will take the hit moving from Quad to Dual core and a lower wattage, especially in Parallels, but as SolidWorks is mainly single threaded does the newer generation CPU account for this?

For the GPU, I'm wondering if the newer intel GPUs have caught up with the 650m that is in my current laptop?

Single core performance will be down to turbo speed on the cpu so that’s easy to see, although cooling and other heat metrics may cause throttling in the smaller machine.

No intels gpu s are much better than before on the 13 inch with the 64mb of edram but still not a Match for your 650.

If your current set up is fine for the moment you may be best off waiting for the 2018 with quadcore on the 13 inch and possible built in AMD graphics.
