Lets talk about owners of the 2017 model compared to this one, the one thing I'm disappointed in is the GPU the rebrand and 560 to the 560x is nothing just 75hz clock speed, so its basically the same GPU for this price I would have wanted a big gpu upgrade, do I sell my 2017 and get it as I want the new cpu and ram as I do graphic rendering?

You keep your 2017, replace the keyboard annually, and take a week off your computer while waiting for the repair to be fulfilled.

Does anyone know which DisplayPort version is supported in the new 2018 mbp? Or even the 2017 model for that matter. Last I heard thunderbolt 3 on mbp only supported dp 1.2. Did it ever upgrade to 1.3? Is the 2018 mbp on dp 1.4?

Heard of eGPU for $699? That is what you buy for 2016/17 models instead of upgrading lock stock and barrel.

Definitely this. Get a 2017 for a big discount and add an eGPU, then you won't have to worry about upgrading the laptop until 2020 or so.

Apparently he already has a 2017 and is now concerned with upgrading to 2018 because of CPU and RAM, but cringing at the prospect of same/ similar graphics. He should only just get the $699 eGPU and be done with.

I would get egpu with 2017 but you only gain with external monitor and bootcamp wont work i want laptop that has good graphics for games but a macbook i would think the gpu 580x would of been upgraded not a rebrand

I think you should wait until we have seen some
i want laptop that has good graphics for games
Then you should go with a windows based laptop. Apple has never focused on games and will never provide a laptop which is near the performance of windows based gaming laptops.

That is not true, you will gain a performance increase if you use an eGPU with you MBP, as it is able to deliver the picture back to the build-in screen. The performance gain is not as high as it would have been with an external monitor, but it (depending on GPU) is better than the build-in, and it moves a significant heatsource out of the machine allowing for better cooling of the CPU

32 GB of RAM is more than welcome for MainStage concerts, where a real sh*tload of RAM-hungry plugins all get loaded before a single note is played.

Apple needed to do this back in 2015. As we now see, it was just an engineering tradeoff. Sure, there's low power DDR4 RAM now, but it remained a simple engineering tradeoff.

I waited so long on my update cycle that I gave up on Apple and purchased a maxed out 2017 just 5 months ago. Will be looking for a way to get as much of that in resale and will definitely go for the new model (maxed out except for SSD, which I'll keep at 2TB).

The 2017 has been amazing. Literally *all* of this complaining about the ports are like kids complaining about training wheels coming off of their bikes. Seriously, these TB3 over USB-C combined ports are awesome. I run TWO TB3 docs, 2x 4x 60Hz displays. It's awesome, and most importantly, those ports, whether they're doing video, USB2/3/C and TB3 (all mixed at the same time), literally NEVER choke... They're that good, and for folks who connect stuff that needs bandwidth, all I can say is "wow"... It's not the worst thing on these designs, it's the best, by far.

Dang I think you just convinced me to go 32 though the price jump is insane IMO (more than a new 6S 128Gb !) but ya would be lovely to have all samples and virtual instruments be loaded into ram..These days I’m in Ableton Live though, so maybe I can still live with 16, will have to make some tests to see...

I would also like to see some comparisons between the 2016 13" TB and the 2018 13" TB (starter models)
