Plan to buy the new macbook pro and it would be good to combine with the back to school promotion. Last year it started on June 2nd, the year before I believe was beginning of July. Haven't heard anything about it, nor any speculation on what it would be like. Anyone has any idea?

I doesn't really matter I think. Last year I purchased the iPad Pro and exactly 3-4 weeks later Apple started the back to school promotion. I visited Apple Store, explained them the situation and they gave my a Beats.

They are very nice to scientist and students!

Yeah, but it's up to their discretion. Back in like 2009 or so I tried what you did, after buying a new Mac like 15 days before the promo started, and I got a $50 iTunes gift card. I mean, better than nothing, but if you're counting on selling the back to school item to offset the price of the computer, then I wouldn't suggest risking it.

I totally agree, but meeehhh... Apple prices are so incredibly high that people can't even count on selling the gift item.
