Hey everyone, I've seen various users report the same issue all over the internet but I've had no luck narrowing it down, so if anyone can chime in, I'd greatly appreciate it.
My 2017 iMac 27" keeps turning itself off and won't turn back on unless I disconnect the power supply and connect it again. At first, I couldn't figure out a pattern, but I am now very confident that it does so exclusively when I am using Lightroom, Final Cut Pro and Davinci Resolve – all heavy hitters. However, things get weird as it seems to perform just fine with Cinebench and other hardware-testing applications such as Heaven.
I've installed Macs Fan Control and for a while, keeping it in full blast made iMac work fine, but now it's happening even with the fans on full speed.
I've tried powering the machine from another socket, yet the problem persists. I've bought new (totally compatible) RAM and removed the original, no luck.
I've also reset SMC and PRAM. I didn't do a clean install as I've seen multiple users reporting that it clearly hasn't fixed that particular problem. EtreCheck shows no real issues from what I can tell.
Now, I am most certainly taking iMac to an authorized repair shop, but I don't have Apple Care and have had multiple experiences with Apple beating around the bush and not really addressing the real issues. Do you have any suggestions as to where the problem might lie so I can push them towards that? Start with the PSU? Logic board?
Essentially, help me spend the least amount of cash on the repairs, and most importantly time.
