I'm using a 2017 iMac Pro with a 3.2 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon W, 64 GB 2666 MHz DDR4, Radeon Pro Vega 56 8 GB. I use Premiere Pro for video editing, as well as Photoshop. I also use Reaper (DAW) for making MIDI music. I'm wondering how my iMac would compare with the Mac Studio base model M1 max, specifically for video editing with Premiere Pro. Lately I've been shooting drone video in 6K and find there is some lag when I'm working in Premiere. Any thoughts about whether the M1 max would be a worthwhile upgrade?

WWDC 2023 is on June. Odds are Mac Studio M2 Max 5nm will be released by then.

That should be a good time to replace your 2017 iMac Pro Xeon 14nm

If you do not mind waiting to around Sep 2024 you can expect a Mac Studio M3 Max 3nm.
