So I know that my laptop is capable of throttling itself because if it maxes its load it can quickly reach 100C. But what I DONT get is that many or most apps that use a lot of CPU power will spike the temps to 90+ then after that everything slows down and the temps go down, and stay at 60. What the hell is up with this? Activity monitor will say it's using like 350% CPU and the temps of each core are in the 60s? It's clearly not using it's own ability and choosing to do so while plugged into the official 87W power adapter. This is very frustrating to me and I don't understand how it's not talked about more unless I somehow have a dud. I mean I've reset the SMC etc and this just seems to be a firmware choice this laptop makes. Oh, that app that's encoding long videos? Let me just throttle myself because it must not be too important. Oh and I guess nothing else you're doing during is important either because your screen is turning into a choppy slideshow.
