Recently took my 2017 MacBook Pro nTB to the Apple store to diagnose a screen problem, which was identical to the problem in this Apple Community post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/8304551
My MacBook Pro was 1 month out of warranty, so I had to pay the flat rate repair price ($500 with tax). Luckily I have an extra year of warranty through my credit card company.
Their proposed reason as to why this happened? Carrying the laptop while it is turned on, with the screen up. I can't even remember the last time I've done this, maybe only 1 or 2 times since I have had the device. They said the wires in the cable connecting the display to the graphics components of the logic board fray, causing these screen discolorations. This directly contradicts the Apple Community post which said it is due to "burn-in." Both reasons sound fishy.
I called Apple Support and the person on the phone said it should have never happened to begin with. If my warranty claim through my credit card does not go through (for whatever reason) you best bet I will be asking for a refund for the repair, which was 1/3 of the cost of the computer.
Anybody else experiencing this? I find it very difficult to believe that a $1500 laptop develops screen defects after one year spontaneously. These 2 purported etiologies of this screen problem are contradictory and hard to believe.
