Hi all,

So I was finally hit with a serious issue. 2017 MBP 256 non touch bar retina 8 gig believe it is i5? I open my MBP up one day and there is nothing. You can hear it turn on, and the screen 'works' but nothing shows. Long story short, was quoted the logic board needed replacing by apple store. More seriously, only then could they see if the data was affected and could be recovered which is the bigger issue. $550 + HST (Canadian) so about 650 all in.

However, I am hearing conflicting things about the drive on this mac. Can I simply take it out, migrate the data over to an external (or a new Mac I would purchase in lieu of repairing this older machine) and then move on with a simple data transfer cost at a certified dealer? quaoted me 85 bucks.

Any experience with something like this? Can I simply do this or must I go with the logic board fix and then see if I can salvage...
