So I've connected a 4k display to the Mac via the Apple USB C to HDMI adapter..

I am pretty sure the output is still only at 30Hz..

Also, there's no information about the response rate in the display settings.

Can someone confirm this ?
Doing some research, I've seen the best way is to go directly via USB C - DisplayPort.

I think that adaptor is limited to 30Hz, I connect mine directly usb-c to usb-c (the monitor uses usb-c as DP) and get 60Hz at 4k on both 12" MB and 15" MBP. I think it uses the older HDMI protocol, the ATV 4k uses HDMI and directly to the monitor and that is at 60Hz but I bought a 4k HDMI cable for that.

VERY important questions:

Is the adapter USB-c to HDMI 2.0 ??
If it's not "2.0", you're probably not going to get 4k @ 60hz.

Is the HDMI cable (between the adapter and the display) "high speed"?
If it's not "high speed", you may not get 4k @ 60hz.

Probably best solution:
USB-c to Minidisplayport adapter.
