I have had my 13" MacBook Pro for almost a week and a half, and I wanted to check if this is a common problem and/or a minor bug or if I should look at returning and exchanging my unit.

When I plug in my MBP to charge using my HengeDocks Stone, I often get the chime and lightning bolt, but the battery is filled in white instead of just an outline and does not charge. If I unplug and replug it works most of the time. On occasion using a different port or a third try is required. This also happened once with the regular Apple power adapter. It is mostly an annoyance, but it has already happened twice that I did not notice and the battery ran to empty.

I have already reset the SMC once, though I will probably do it again.

Is this a common issue? Should I exchange the machine or just assume it is an OS bug that will be fixed?

It’s part of automatic battery management (the one that makes sure your battery stays healthy and strong). As long as you get the power adapter indicator, everything works as it should.

Normally I would say that sounds correct, but it has run the battery down doing this. I have plugged it in at like 75% and used it without knowing it was not actually charging until I got the low battery warning. With chime and bolt icon.

I see. Then yeah, you might have a problem :)
