Hello,

I am in the market for the new 2018 Mac Mini and I am having a hard time making a decision on what configuration to pick. Here are the options. Which configuration would perform the best. I am also looking ahead into the future, because I want to not have to upgrade this things for at least 5-7yrs.

I am new to this Mac game and I am converting over. I know the basics, so wont be doing anything high end.

My usage is going to consist of light video editing, running windows 10 via boot camp. I wont be doing anything really high end on it.

Configuration 1:

Mac Mini: i5- 16GB of memory -512GB SSD

Configuration 2:

Mac Mini: i7- 8GB of memory- 512GB SSD

Without describing your actual usage case, it is impossible for anyone here to contribute a meaningful suggestion specific to your situation.

This is like asking "which car should I buy?"

That said, it is possible to upgrade memory at a later date. You cannot upgrade the CPU.

go for i7 8gb ram for now, can upgrade the ram later in a few years when it gets cheaper

Thank you for your input. I will go that route, because your right, the CPU cannot be upgraded, but the ram can at a later date. I am transitioning over from a PC's so i want to the best bang for the money i am going to drop on this Mac.

Perfect. I have decided to go with the i7 with 8GB of ram and upgrade the ram at a later date.

OP:

You should be buying "configuration 3":
i7
16gb RAM
512gb SSD

If price matters, wait for the above configuration to come into stock at the Apple refurbished store...

Thank you for your guidance. I am not concerned about pricing. As for the refurbished store, they never have any in stock.
