I've been helping a friend who bought the 2018 Mac Mini soon after it came out. It was pretty smooth sailing for a long time. It's used for mainly light use -- Safari, Mail, and occasional documents in Pages.

It had been on 10.14.x for a long while and started displaying those "critical error" messages that were discussed at length on here in another thread. Upgrading to 10.15.5 made those errors go away. Around that time, he wanted to get into Zoom and Google Meet.

It's hard to find headsets and web cams -- but I was able to find a new Logitech C615 and logitech h390 headset. There have been all kinds of problems since then. First we tried a Anker USB hub as there were also a USB printer and USB external hard drive that we wanted to be plugged in. The logitech headset nor web cam liked being plugged into that HUB. Then I thought --- lets get USB C to A adapters for the printer and hard drive -- and plug the web cam and head set directly into the 2 USB A ports. That is a disaster with both video and audio in the web conferencing rooms in Zoom and Google Meet.

It seemed like the only thing that works is to only have the Logitech C615 plugged in by itself. The video is smooth and the mic on the camera can be used. It cannot work in conjunction with the headset. The web cam also does not work right with the printer / hard drive plugged into the USB C ports at the same time.

any idea of what is going on? Is it just USB interference?

So you would say its just a fatal flaw with the 2018 Mini in general? or more along the lines of OS 10.15 being the culprit?

It's hardware problem of MM18. But it could be circumvented I believe, at least partially, if you experiment enough with USB hubs, adapters, and your devices.
