2018 MacBook Pro 15 i7 - recovery mode issues

Question. Having trouble booting my 2018 macbbook pro into recovery mode. Holding down Commmand-R brings up a screen that prompts me to choose a netwok and input a password...a globe spins for a few minutes, and then I get warning/error that reads 'apple.com/support -9000f'. I've googled that error, but haven't been able to find anything. Advice is appreciated.

Thanks - looks interesting. Will give that a shot. Actually got it to work using command-option-R.
