2018 MacBook Pro + LG 5K Issue

im trying to conmtact a 2018 MacBook Pro to the LG 5K monitor in clamshell mode however it won’t power on.

Previously with 2016/2017 if the laptop was off, lid was closed (clamshell) and you plugged in the USB-C cable, it would start charging the laptop, turn on the computer and automatically recognize the monitor...

Now when it’s off and the lid is closed and you plug in the USB-C cable it just starts charging it’s however the monitor nor the laptop turn on.

Would anyone be able to try if it’s the same for them? Laptop off, lid closed, plug in USB-C and see if monitor/laptop both turn on.

Any suggestions? Called Apple and so far nothing from the 5 hours of troubleshooting

Do you have a keyboard and mouse also connected? I have the same setup and I need a keyboard or mouse to wake the laptop/display.

Yes have a bluetooth keyboard (k811) and mouse (MX). That has no impact on it.

What keyboard/mouse you using? You mean when you plug in the cable you need to hit keys on the external keyboard for it to turn on?

I have the Apple BT Keyboard and Magic Mouse 2.

Any particular key you hit to get it to turn on? Im guessing the eject button top right?

Also just to confirm.. Your macbook is OFF and the lid is closed.. You plug in the USB-C cable which does nothing until you hit a key ?

Just a move of the mouse or press of any key. Yes, lid closed, MBP asleep, not turned off I think.

Yes when asleep that works fine. Can you try macbook completely off (shut down),everything unplugged and lid closed, then plug in the USB-C cable from monitor and see if it boots up with closed lid. Thanks

That does not work for me either.
