2018 MBA: An upgarde on old MBP?

I am debating buying the new MacBook Air to replace a 2012 2.3GHZ MacBook Pro. Will the MBA be a noticeable downgrade or will the 6 years it has on the MBP see a lot of benefits? I want a lighter, more portable machine with better battery life, but not if it’s going to be a worse user experience.
