Hey!

So I never had the speaker crackling issue since I installed the supplemental updates before using the MBP.

Audio playback via the integrated output is fine, but using my usb audio interface (Motu Audio Express) causes repeated dropouts and glitches.

Recording, producing or even just listening to music is impossible.

Other brands of interfaces seem to have the same problem.
The consensus seems to be that it is an issue only apple can solve.

I'd like to know if there are any musicians/producers on here that use the 2018 MBP with an audio interface without any problems. For example are thunderbolt connected interfaces working hiccup-free?

Suggestion:
You ought to post your problems over at gearslutz.com as well.
It's a dedicated audio/video site, there may be more folks who can help "over there".

Not sure if you're following any of the gearslutz threads or logicprohelp, but I've had the same issue (internal speakers fine, external usb random dropouts) with Focusrites (solo 1st gen and 2i2 2nd gen). I've been in contact with a user on logicprohelp with an i9 who has had success with a UR12 (steinberg), so I'm gonna give that a shot. I'm also going to test a NI Komplete Audio, though another user here has had issues with that. All of the users with firewire or thunderbolt interfaces that I've run across have not reported issues, though that's a small sample set.
