I wonder if anyone can assist, I am frankly out of my mind with Apple Support .....

I have an 2019 iMac running the Big Sur 11.3 Beta 2.... the version appears not to matter cause I have tested going back to Catalina and still have the same issue..... the LG 24" Thunderbolt Display 24MD4KL-B only will work properly if it is connected to my iMac when it boots...
i can't seem to be able to disconnect it and reconnect it later with out rebooting. This happens connected directly to the iMac's TB port or through a hub. I am however able to plug/unplug the LG to my MacBook pro 16 with out issue. This was my experience with Apple Support last night.

Apple support would not speak to me as I was running the 11.3 Beta, so i installed Big Sur 11.2.2 and Catalina on different SSDs i have attached to my system so i could cleanly boot into each one. In both cases could unplug and replug the LG monitor and have it turn back on.

a) Apple said the fact I had a beta in my internal drive disqualified me for any support. This is ridiculous, if i boot into clean OS on an external drive why is this not running a supported OS?
b) Apple claimed the MacBook Pro and iMac handle thunderbolt displays differently. "They are designed differently thus only the MB Pro supports unplugging / plugging in a Thunderbolt display"... I guess isn't thunderbolt 3 protocol the same no matter what mac it is in?

Is what Apple saying normal, that one can't unplug an Thunderbolt 3 monitor from an iMac and expect to have it work correctly when I plug it back in and that a MacBook Pro would not see this as an issue? and why is booting into a clean OS on an external disk and having a beta on the internal disk considered to be unsupported....

I just don't understand the logic of why the Mac's would act differently? Thanks for any thoughts Ira

(*Apple has stepped up to at least pull some debug info from my system so they at least acknowledged by problem, took a call back and finally got a support person that cared*)
