Just got my first Apple Silicon Mac. I have had multiple intel MacBook Pros since they transitioned to Intel (2007 15", 2012 15", 2020 13"). The last one was a 13" 2020 4 port maxed out with i7, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD. I am replacing it with an M4 13" MBA with 24GB RAM and 1TB SSD which I received today. Wow what a difference. Markedly faster. I've been using it on battery constantly for the last 2 hours and lost only 5% battery so far. My prior MBP would have lost at least 25% if not more. The thinner lighter design is very nice too. Very happy I chose this over a MBP this time around. It will definitely be plenty for my needs. The only thing I don't like as much is the keyboard which feels a little plasticky. Prior MBP has a more solid premium feel to it.

Yes the M4 is a huge leap from the 2020 Intel. My mother just upgraded from a 2019 13” MBP to an M4 Air.

Just curious as to why you went with a 24GB model when you had 32GB in your 2020.

I decided I just didn’t need 32gb. For macOS I’d be fine with 16gb but once in a while I run windows via parallels so wanted a little extra. Similarly for the SSD I didn’t really need 2TB and the pricing for the higher sizes gets crazy. I’m loving this laptop. From the form factor to the speed and battery life. Absolutely no need for a pro. I bought a nice hub that plugs directly into the 2 usb c connectors and matches the midnight color. That gives me all the connections I need.
