The cap locks key on my 2020 M1 MacBook Air sometimes doesn't work. The light is on but sometimes no one is home. I ran a diagnostic and the only error that comes up is a an issue with the Power Port - Reference code PPP001.

I've run Onyx maintenance and a EtreCheck but the problem remains the same. The OS is Big Sur.

Any suggestions on making it work all the time is appreciated.

is updating your OS not an option?

After doing a clean install of Ventura capital letters will be created without the caps lock enabled...at times. Any other thoughts are appreciated.

If you get random caps as you type, without touching the shift key, and random small letters when the Caps lock is engaged, then I would expect that you have a problem with keyboard encoding (the system is getting intermittent key strokes, probably one of the shift keys is faulty.)
You should be able to tell which shift key by making a test document. Type with random keys, press and release each letter, alternating with shift up, shift down, so each key is shifted, then un-shifted. Leave Caps lock off for this test. Then, do the same testing with the shift keys, but with the Caps Lock down. Hopefully, you will see which shift key is intermittent (a faulty shift key is what I expect, I could be wrong, but the test hopefully will determine which key is faulty. Probably not repairable without replacing the keyboard. Call AppleCare. They might be able to help you, even if you are out of the normal warranty. If not, be sure to ask about a "flat-rate repair"
