As a factory-installed option, wireless CarPlay has been primarily limited to premium brands like BMW and Porsche, but Fiat Chrysler Automobiles this week introduced its redesigned 2021 Chrysler Pacifica minivan with a standard 10.1-inch touchscreen that supports both wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.

Wireless CarPlay is a feature of Fiat Chrysler's new Uconnect 5 infotainment system, standard across the new Pacifica lineup. Fiat Chrysler says Uconnect 5 is up to five times faster than Uconnect 4 and features built-in Amazon Alexa voice control, a revamped user interface, support for up to five user profiles, and more.

CarPlay? is Apple's in-car platform that enables drivers to access a range of iPhone apps from the dashboard, such as Messages, Apple Maps, Apple Music, Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify, Pandora, WhatsApp, and Downcast. Since iOS 12, third-party navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze are also supported.

Wireless CarPlay works over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, eliminating the need for the iPhone to be connected to the infotainment system with a Lightning cable.

Fiat Chrysler says the 2021 Pacifica will be available to order in the third quarter of 2020, with the vehicle slated to arrive to dealerships across the United States and Canada in the fourth quarter. Pricing has not been disclosed.

Ford is also introducing wireless CarPlay in select 2020 vehicles through its SYNC 4 infotainment system, while aftermarket wireless CarPlay systems are available from brands such as Alpine for do-it-yourself installation.

With Ford and FCA rolling it out to their entire fleet, I imagine it will be widely adopted in the next few years. GM, Honda, Hyundai, Subaru, Kia, Mazda etc. will likely follow in their next major car multimedia update.
Is ford updating older cars or just rolling it out on new ones?

It's part of their SYNC 4 system so only new cars unfortunately.

Wireless carplay & Wireless charging on a soft anti-slip mat in the center console = standard every carmaker should be going for.

Agreed. Hope these cars also have wireless chargers or at least options for them.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Touch screens in cars are a royal pain in the ass. Try hitting a bump as you’re trying to precisely position your finger. And worst: they force your eyes off the road. Physical buttons are not worse just because they’re older technology. I drove a Tesla; locomotion was fine, but I absolutely hated everything about living in it.

This is one feature that is making me hesitant about buying a new SUV. I know if I buy the car I want this year, I’ll regret not having this feature in a few years.

I was just at my Dodge dealership for something unrelated to the Pacifica, but I looked at the ‘show room’ model that topped out at $43,000. And these freakin vehicles are _nice_. Every option possible you can think of, ridiculous amount of cargo space with folding seats, ect.

I also want to comment on UConnect (Which my 18’ Charger Scat Pack has). I’m not even talking about Apple CarPlay in general, UConnect is probably the best infotainment center I have used/tested amongst a lot of competitors. It’s fluid, quick to respond to tasking and simplistic with a solid U.I. It really makes a difference in terms of the user experience.

Not sure what car you are looking at but uconnect on my 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk is a piece of crap. Slow to load anything, XM radio works like 50% of the time, and their OTA updates always introduce more bugs than fixes.

I referred to my Scat Pack UConnect experience was excellent (And still is for that matter), which trumps Microsoft Sync I had in my GT and SHO. Can’t attest to any other models.

God damn that’s an ugly interior. Who buys this ?

I've rented this generation Chrysler minivan a few times for family trips, and they are incredibly useful. If you're looking for utility and space for luggage/etc it doesn't get much better. Nice and quiet and smooth for long highway trips. You can put an amazing amount of stuff behind the third row.

I could see myself picking one up when the family SUV finally dies. I have other cars for when I want a fun ride, but for sheer practicality this can't be beat.

Nice, a fellow Scat owner! It’s a great car, The ZF transmissions/6.4 L SRT engine virtually don’t have any mechanical issues. Also, I have ‘Pitch black clear-coat’, and it’s an absolute monster of a ride. Props to Dodges Commitment to the V8 segment.
