Hi. I have seen some discussion on this elsewhere but it’s a few months out of date. Does anyone here use the new Siri remote with the Apple TV Plex app? Specifically does the rotary scrubbing work as expected?

For anyone who comes across this topic by searching, after some more digging I have discovered that the new remote was just recently fully supported with jog wheel functionality in version 7.19 of the Apple TV Plex app, so have gone ahead and ordered one. Will report any issues here.

I'm on 7.19.1

the jog wheel, and skip forward/back were not working. I rebooted the appleTV, and now both work. before the reboot, even force quitting Plex didn't fixe it.
Thanks for pointing this out, because the skip was driving me nuts, I had to get the phone out a couple times today. Watching a show with occasional thick accents, and missed some words here and there. it would show the skip icon, but not do anything.

Plex does not generate a thumbnail as you scroll, most apps do that. Plex just shows the pointer moving on the timeline, and then once you hit play, you see where you are. so trying to find something visually doesn't really work.
The Infuse app will connect to your plex server, and it does generate the thumbnail.

and just a note, when you want to use the jog wheel, touch the wheel, hold your finger still for a moment, till the wheel icon shows on the screen. If you don't pause, it won't work.

It’s a vastly superior remote. My only real gripe is that it sometimes feels a bit harsh in the hand owing to the cold, sharp edges. But then style has always trumped ergonomics in Apple’s playbook, so I’m not surprised. Overall I’m impressed. Shame you still can’t map power on/off from an external IR remote. Only volume and mute.

It appears to use the rational that when Apple TV goes to sleep all down stream devices (Receiver/TV) will turn off via HDMI CEC.

Indeed. But this doesn’t work when you have all your video signals bypassing the receiver because it doesn’t support HDCP 2.2 or HDMI 2.1

Yes I need a new receiver but I’m waiting for HDMI 2.1 to become commonplace before upgrading.

Well that's pretty much now. Most major manufacturers (Yamaha, Denon, Marantz ...) introduced 2.1 receivers in various price ranges this year. Since they often only upgrade a particular model every few years then if there is a model which meets your requirements (power, channels, features, modes, etc.) there is no point in waiting. 2.1 is pretty irrelevant unless you are a gamer or don't have a 2.1 TV.

Yeah I will probably upgrade later this year 👍

PS. I am a gamer and already have a HDMI 2.1 OLED that supports 120hz and variable refresh, so the wait for affordable receivers was definitely valid. But yeah…anyway…it would be nice if Apple allowed you to map an IR power button to the ATV power button.

As long as your TV and the receiver support ARC and CEC, then you should be able to plug your aTV directly into your TV, and it should handle all the power and input switching for you. And the tv should forward the audio to your receiver.

Came back here to say that skip and the jog wheel stopped working for me in plex. Once again had to restart the aTV to get it back

Nope. Don’t have any free HDMI sockets on TV to run ARC back to amp. Believe me I have explored all options. Having to run optical out of TV into amp. I only get vanilla 5/7.1 this way but it will suffice until I upgrade 👍
