My base-spec early 2006 iMac came with 256 GB of storage (HDD). It’s the same amount of storage (SSD) the new MBA comes with. No storage capacity increase after 16 years! ;)

The iMac had Mac OS X Tiger on it. Installation footprint approx.: 4GB. Monterey is (I’ve read) about six times the size.

256 GB is less useful than it was 16 years ago, because the system software and much else has expanded enormously.

You can choose what storage you want with it. Just choose more 🤷
