Having just watched Seattle vs. Leon, thought I'd start this... not that I think it will get many posts, it's just better than continuing to hijack the MLB thread. And yes, I know that game was not an MLS regular season game. Soccer makes things complicated.

Quotes from the MLB thread, and elaboration:

Easy solution: record the games. You can skip ahead when:
-ball goes out of bounds (resume Play when it's thrown back in) -stoppage for a penalty -goal scored (rare event)
-even when the ball is being played in the middle of the field (no one is taking a shot from 50 yards away)

If you are going to do all that, why bother watching it at all?
A better response than I gave in the MLB thread:
Well, they often show replays during "live action", right? So why bother tuning in, just go to the game...
Seriously, that's the kind of "live action" I would skip when watching a recording, even if there's no replay that I didn't want to see. The goalkeeper has to put the ball back in play. Sometimes that's not exactly immediate, and this act never results directly into a shot on goal. I have ample time to hit Play again before it gets interesting.
Plus, there is "down time" while the clock is running, which the referee keeps track of and adds as "stoppage time" at the end of each half. Such incidents can be really boring. The solution in other sports is to go to a commercial, but that doesn't happen in a soccer telecast for some reason. In effect, this quirk of the game is to substitute adding on time at the end for actually pausing the time clock. That adds a little suspense, I suppose.
Many local affiliates offer games in 2 hours, which cuts out some of the game slowing shenanigans. I've recorded football games and watched them instead of sitting there while they played live. I usually do this just to skip the commercials, not game play.
Yeah, the replay broadcasts skip lots of stuff, no matter the sport. So when I watch a recorded game, I'm basically creating my own replay game. The advantage I have is that I can back up and actually watch and listen when I see something interesting while fast forwarding. Of course, I use Skip Ahead to blow past commercials at half time. Yeah, I skip the whole thing, actually.

So to conclude on the topic of soccer, Seattle and Leon tied, but this was the second of two games, and Seattle outscored Leon 4-1 combined, so they advance to the final of the SSCL Cup. This is another soccer rule that doesn't have a counterpart in other team sports. Meanwhile, before their next CONCACAF match, Seattle has an actual MLS game to play.
