Alright so I got my 2023 16" MBP and noticed during the setup and on the Lock Screen there appeared to be a dead pixel on the battery indicator.

I returned that laptop and got a replacement… but the replacement has the same exact thing in the same spot!

This time I inspected more closely with the macro camera and it looks like it’s not dead but rather the wrong color. I’m beginning to think it’s a weird software glitch rather than a defect given it happened twice in the same spot. Anyone else notice this on theirs? You have to be on the setup or Lock Screen to be able to see it. When I move the mouse over top of it the pixel seems to change to the correct color (to match the mouse).

Update: Just confirmed this behavior also occurs on a 2021 16” MBP. Seems to be a software thing.

Wow very good eye. This is strange.
Indeed! I was able to check a 16” Intel MacBook Pro and it does not appear to have this issue, but the three Apple Silicon ones I’ve observed (which also happen to have the MiniLED panel) do. It’ll be interesting to hear if anyone else can see this on their Lock Screen battery icon.

Just looking at my 14" and it has the same thing lol.

Mine (14" MBP) does not have it on lock screen or normal screen.

It's your tracking pixel. Apple is watching.

EDIT: I am still on Monterey, if that makes a difference

If it is always just the battery icon then wouldn't it be possible it is the graphics element just glitches or flat out missing a pixel?

The battery icon looks fine after you unlock the device, it's only on the lock screen (or the initial device setup screens). But yes, I think it's a graphic glitch of some sort. So far 5 different laptops have the same behavior. @wilberforce claims theirs is fine, and one Intel MacBook that seems fine which is not surprising because the Intel is different hardware and software for graphic rendering.

Seeing the same thing on my M1 MBA on Ventura 13.1. It only shows up on the lock screen, so I would be shocked if this wasn't a hardware issue. My guess is it's the icon or the graphic rendering on the M-Series chips.

If you do a screen capture, do you see the flaw in the icon?

If it is a hardware fault, the screenshot should show the intended image.
If it is a rendering bug, the screenshot should show flow in the icon.

Same thing here...on both Mbp also on external display
So its a software thing, nothing big to talk about it. I send to Apple your pictures as a feedback

It's on the lock screen, I'm not sure that can be captured easily?

edit> ok apparently you can, so ignore that.. but I can't really see how this could be anything but a software glitch.
I agree, but it seems like a screen capture can verify that. CMD-SHIFT-3 saves the screen. If the glitch is there in the icon, that confirms it is software and not hardware.

I don't have a MBP or I would try it to confirm.
